The Sack of the Cities: A Ballad

An anti-ICE sign is placed above a stack of cinder blocks at the corner of a yellow house. Snow covers the ground around the house.

Nightmares in masks are roaming our streets.

Defenders with smart phones reveal

video screens show the hell demons wreak,

streamed live in Facebook reels.

No video witness, atrocities grow in number.

Invaders with allegiance to none.

Goblins batter, destroy, r@pe, murder and plunder,

for the warlord and the gun.

Our citizens refuse to surrender to the raids.

Our leaders cry foul but for naught.

We stand against the horde, and to the needy render aid,

no protection from the onslaught.

It's just us, no justice, as we combat this siege,

We're the ones we're waiting for,

With voices and signs burning with lèse-majesté

against empire, waging a war.

With eyes, mouths and hearts, we fight to survive

the sack of our cities far and wide.

To drive out the terrors and bring the dream back alive,

’tis time for nightmares to die!
